Manch Tantra's first official play was titled Socha Na Tha was conceptualised by her and written along with others in the group. Tahira even reveals how one night before when the nationwide lockdown was imposed, they all met at her Mumbai residence and spent their time singing and enjoying some cricket till the wee hours. Also recalling memories of camping with them last year, she shares how they've all been friends since school days and continue to share the same bond even today after all these years.

Talking about the same, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana says, "Socha Na Tha, our first play was conceptualised by me and we all sat to write it. It was directed by Ravi Yuvraj Panthi. Rochak gave the music and played a part in it too. Ayushmann did the choreography. There was a time, we had a small fight, so he used to use choreography as a means to get close to me and make it up to me. Our favourite hangout joint was CITCO’s stop and stare at sector 10 Chandigarh. All of us used to meet there after attending our respective colleges and used to jam in there and do rehearsals along with theatre exercises. It was a free of cost place so all of us could afford that and it wasn’t ever crowded back then so we could rehearse in peace."

Meanwhile, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana has recently finished writing her fourth book titled 'The 12 Commandments Of Being A Woman'. The book is a quirky take towards the experiences of being and becoming a woman.

Tanushree Dutta on Sushant Singh Rajput's demise: Thought after Jiah Khan, nothing like this would happen

Posted on 2 Aug 2020 07:52:21 GMT - bollywood-news

The demise of Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14 came as a shock for all the people. Right from the actors to politicians to sports personalities, everyone paid condolences to him and recalled the work he did in his eight-year career. It has been more than a month and there are debates and discussions about Nepotism happening even now.

The case is currently being investigated by the Mumbai Police. Taking to her Instagram account, actor Tanushree Dutta gave her reaction and uploaded a video where she talked about how the industry is, her opinion on the ongoing investigation, and how she thought after the unfortunate demise of Jiah Khan in 2013, nothing like this would ever happen again.

Talking about the investigation, Dutta said, "Mumbai Police cannot be trusted with doing a fair and impartial investigation. They are usually too quick to dismiss such cases and close matters and are usually hand in glove with culprits themselves and politicians from the start. All this show about calling people to record their statement is just a show to appease public sentiment because the matter is hot right now."

A post shared by Tanushree Dutta (@iamtanushreeduttaofficial) onJun 23, 2020 at 3:06am PDT

Talking about her case when she talked about how she was harassed by Nana Patekar in the year 2009, she stated, "In my case too, they pretended to care and investigate for months. I wasted so much time and energy doing an FIR, submitting a wealth of evidence and witness testimonies, video footage, circumstantial evidence, secondary evidence etc and follow up regularly."

She added, "Yet in their final report they refused to even take into account all that evidence, didn't follow up with key witnesses who were threatened into silence by Nana's lawyers, supporters and withdrew from coming forward. What we had provided to Mumbai police, had it been in the US by now all those people would have been already sentenced to prison."

She then said how the CBI or even the Interpol could step in if there was an underworld involvement. She said, "CBI needs to step in and maybe Interpol if there is underworld involvement. Usually such cases involve a nexus behind the crime and not just one individual or party. They play on that human sentiment and wait it out till they declare the matter closed."

Dutta also added how she thought that nothing like this would ever happen in Bollywood again after the demise of Jiah Khan in 2013. "I was really shocked and sad. I though after Jiah Khan (who died by suicide in 2013), nothing of this sort would happen in Bollywood. Sushant's story is even more heartbreaking because he had everything going for him. But he must have been in a dark place and it was probably difficult for him to see his blessings."

Naseeruddin Shah: Let Sushant Singh Rajput rest in peace, the level of debate is getting juvenile

Posted on 2 Aug 2020 07:11:17 GMT - bollywood-news

After the unfortunate demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, there have been multiple debates and discussions on news channels and social media about nepotism, groupism, and even how unfair the Hindi film industry has been at times. Almost every actor and filmmaker has spoken something about this tragedy.

And in his recent interview with Film Companion, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah stated how the late actor should be left alone and why the debate is getting more and more juvenile. He said, "One can only hope for that though the level of the debate is getting more and more juvenile and I see it as completely unnecessary. Why are we washing our dirty underwear in public? Why are actors who have been content now complaining they are not on posters?"

He added, "Why are actors who didn't get a certain film complaining they didn't get it? They didn't get it. There are so many actors who didn't get it. If everyone of us starts enumerating out complaints, the film industry will seem like the worst place on earth. And I daresay that is true of any industry. First of all I hope this poor Sushant is laid to rest and people just leave him alone."

Talking about the OTT platform and how it has the ability to change things for content, he gave his opinion and stated, "And my hope is that people will realise the futility of block-busting, seeti inducing applause inducing, coin throwing kind of movies because that is probably not going to happen anymore. It's going to be very interesting to see what kind of reaction a Salman Khan film gets on the OTT platform."

He continued, "People watching alone at home, will they still throw coins at the screen? No they won't. It's a fever that infects everybody." Shah is now gearing up for Amazon Prime Video's web series, Bandish Bandits.

Rajat Barmecha: Udaan won almost all the awards, but the best actor went to Ranveer and not me

Posted on 2 Aug 2020 06:40:31 GMT - bollywood-news

There have been instances in the past when Bollywood actors and filmmakers have spoken about how they were upset that they didn't get an award when they thought they deserved it or their films deserved it. And the recent actor to talk about it is Rajat Barmecha.

The actor, who made a terrific debut in 2010 with Vikramaditya Motwane's solid coming-of-age drama Udaan, recently spoke to Navbharat Times and talked about the appreciation he received for his film and performance and why he was jealous of Ranveer Singh at that time.

Barmecha stated, "In 2011, almost all the awards went to Udaan. It even got the Best Film award. But when it came to announcing the Best Actor, it was Ranveer and not me, and I was a little disheartened at that time." He added, "Everyone had praised me a lot for my work in the film. Amitabh Bachchan even wrote a blog about me and Udaan. So I couldn't digest the fact that even after Udaan got the Best Film award, how was I not the best actor? I was present in each and every frame throughout the film."

He then said how he was naive at that time and how he has matured over the years. "This was when I was just 21 years old. I was quite naive then and these feelings were only a product of my naivety. I never had any hard feelings for Ranveer or never wished anything bad for him. Now after all these years, I have become more mature and now I find these stories really funny. I wouldn't react the same way if such a thing happens today. Also, I am not jealous of Ranveer anymore," he said.

Barmecha is very active on social media and keeps sharing his pictures and videos that give his fans an insight into his life. Coming to Ranveer Singh, the actor completes a decade in the Hindi film industry this year and is now gearing up for films like 83, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Takht, and a film with Zoya Akhtar that co-stars Katrina Kaif.

Nepotism debate reignites, as Janhvi Kapor's Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl's trailer releases

Posted on 2 Aug 2020 05:51:05 GMT - bollywood-news

On Saturday, the first look of Karan Johar's production Gunjan Saxena—The Kargil Girl was unveiled, which provided a fresh impetus to the on-going nepotism debate. The Janhvi Kapoor-starrer is about the first female Indian Air Force pilot to serve in a combat zone.

With B-Town's biggies such as Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar taking to social media to praise the trailer, a section of netizens said it was a "pure nepo movie that needs to be boycotted." Kapoor's fans swung to her rescue, saying that it's "an inspiring story for girls and that needs to be taken into consideration."

Recently, Janhvi Kapoor opened up on the biggest lesson she learnt while portraying the character of Gunjan Saxena, the first female Indian Air Force pilot in a warzone, in the upcoming biopic. Since Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is based on the life of the Air Force pilot, Janhvi spent substantial time with her.

"It all comes down to the effort and the hard work you put into your work. Her (Gunjan Saxena's) outlook is very simple. If one keeps working hard, then one will get where one has to get. I am aware of my privilege. I often felt guilty about it. But the best I can do is to earn my place by working even harder," Janhvi, daughter of the late superstar Sridevi, said.

Also Read: Swara Bhasker: Film industry is being made out as villainous place with heartless people

She noted how Saxena didn't let society's gender bias act as an obstacle, and never victimised herself. Instead just worked hard, which is something that inspires the most. In a media interaction she attended with Janhvi, Saxena spoke of the toughest things a woman in uniform faces.

"Other than infrastructure barriers like no separate washrooms or changing rooms, which were slowing taken care of, the toughest thing was breaking the mental barrier people had, making them accept you as a professional. Being accepted as an officer and not being looked at as a woman officer. I think that was the most challenging and also exciting part," Saxena said.

The film directed by Sharan Sharma also features Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi, and is set for a Netflix release on August 12.

Radhika Madan opened up on the bond she shared with Irrfan on the sets of their film, "Angrezi Medium", and shared how she used to call him "papa" or "dad". In the film, Irrfan played Radhika's father.

"I never addressed him as sir, I always addressed him as 'papa' or 'dad'! He would just smile. I remember when I first met him and I called him 'dad', instead of feeling weird about it, he gave me a big hug. I will always remember him as 'dad'," Radhika said, while speaking to IANS.

"I feel so grateful that I got the opportunity to just stand in front of him and share screen space. I learnt so many things from him as an actor and as a person. Working with him was a big tick on my wish list," she said.

Irrfan breathed his last in Mumbai on April 29 after battling colon infection.

Neeta Lulla on joining Oscar voting body for 2020

Posted on 2 Aug 2020 04:04:39 GMT - bollywood-news

Celebrated costume designer Neeta Lulla is happy to join the Oscar Panel this year, and says the role comes with a lot of responsibility. Lulla was among the 819 artistes and executives who have received invitations to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

"The responsibility it brings is the responsibility to communicate correctly. When you are part of such an esteemed jury, you need to communicate to them correctly, you need to be in sync with what they're talking about in terms of what are the new kind of films coming up, and the genres that are coming up, be true to reading them, be true to judging the films that come to you. A great deal of responsibility goes with it," Lulla told IANS.

The 2020 invitees also include Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Hrithik Roshan, documentary director Nishtha Jain, writer Sabrina Dhawan, casting directors Nandini Shrikent and Tess Joseph, visual effects artistes Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal, and V. Senthil Kumar, the co-founder of the digital streaming company Qube Cinema Technologies.

The invitation, when accepted, gives one voting rights to the 93rd edition of Academy Awards. Lulla's period films "Devdas" (2002), "Jodhaa Akbar" (2008) and "Manikarnika" (2019) were recognised by the Academy.

"I was completely taken aback when that underlying aspect of the clip came in. And I was like, this is a body that has recognised my work and knows what 'Devdas' and 'Jodhaa Akbar' are! There's a sense of pride that they have actually noticed these films and they have seen the work over, and then came the clip where they spoke about the visual grandeur and visual colour combinations of 'Manikarnika'. It was like people are noticing India and people are noticing the kind of work coming from India," declared Lulla, who was also seen in "Decoded Season 2", a short-format fashion series on TLC and Discovery Plus app.
