Drew Barrymore doesn't want her kids to act before 14

Posted on 1 Aug 2020 07:15:32 GMT - hollywood-news

Drew Barrymore says she doesn't want her daughters to act until they are older.

The 45-year-old actress began her career when she was just 11 months and worked throughout her childhood.

While speaking to Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell via video chat, she said that she would support Olive, seven, and Frankie, six, if they wanted to follow in her footsteps, but would rather wait until they are at least in their teens before encouraging them to do so, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"I would be the first person to help them, but not before 14 or 15," she said.

The star, who has her daughters with ex-husband Will Kopelman, also admitted that her long career has had its ups and downs but she wouldn't trade her "wonderful baggage" for anything.

She said: "I have all sort of wonderful baggage that I would never let go of or have it any other way, because I wouldn't be exactly who I am at this moment in time without those experiences."

Meanwhile, the actress recently admitted that she found homeschooling during the coronavirus pandemic to be overwhelming at first.

She said: "Between homeschooling and working, I felt very overwhelmed at first - and I hate feeling overwhelmed. It was weird to be a mum and a teacher and a provider and a friend. I felt sad for a while that I was all I could offer my children. Then I realised that I had to get out from under it. I have so much empathy and patience for everyone but myself, it's sick."

Bryan Cranston reveals recovery from COVID-19, donates plasma

Posted on 31 Jul 2020 15:32:51 GMT - hollywood-news

Emmy-winning actor Bryan Cranston has revealed his recovery from mild symptoms of Covid-19, and said he donated his plasma with a hope that his antibodies would help others fight the disease. The "Breaking Bad" star opened up about his diagnosis via Instagram with a two-minute video, in which he takes his followers through the plasma donation process, reports variety.com.

"I wanted to announce that I had COVID-19 a little while ago. Very lucky, very mild symptoms," Cranston said, adding: "So I thought maybe there's something I can do, so I started a program (at UCLA Blood and Platelet Center) so hopefully the plasma donation can help some other people."

Along with the video, he wrote: "Hi. About now you're probably feeling a little tied down, restricting your mobility and like me, you're tired of this!! Well, I just want to encourage you to have a little more patience. I was pretty strict in adhering to the protocols and still... I contracted the virus. Yep. it sounds daunting now that over 150,000 Americans are dead because of it. I was one of the lucky ones. Mild symptoms. I count my blessings and urge you to keep wearing the damn mask, keep washing your hands, and stay socially distant. We can prevail - but ONLY if we follow the rules together. Be well - Stay well."

Cranston was able to donate 840 millilitres of plasma to coronavirus research, and said that he plans to return soon to make another donation. The actor encouraged his followers to donate plasma if they have had Covid-19, saying that the process takes only an hour.

The Kissing Booth 2 Review: An enjoyable teen rom-com (for some)

Posted on 31 Jul 2020 02:46:48 GMT - hollywood-news

The Kissing Booth 2
On: Netflix
Dir: Vince Marcello
Cast: Jacob Elordi, Joey King, Joel Courtney
Rating: review-the-kissing-booth-2

Nowadays, people's schedules are fixed -- work from home over the week, watch something entertaining, or even something stupid, as Friday arrives. Anyway, who wants something brainy when the world is already under crisis? All we have to follow is KISS - Keep It Stupid, Silly. And honestly, after all the chaos this pandemic has brought into our lives, we need a break! 2020 needs a break. We all wish 2020 would just be as sweet and silly as this film is!

Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi), the 'Johnny Bravo' of the movie, and his girlfriend Elle Evans (Joey King) will remind you of your teen love. Once again, this too has a fairytale ending, obviously. Every scene shown in the movie, as silly as it gets, will take you back to all the embarrassing teenage things all of us have done while growing up. Teenage love, the friendships, the jealous looks shared in the hallway as we walk with our BFF right next to us, The Kissing Booth 2 has it all!

Watch the trailer of The Kissing Booth 2 here:

The story has got more predictable, but all you want is a no-brainer, honestly! It is cute when Elle and Noah try hard to make their long-distance relationship work, and rework their plans, as now, priorities have changed. If you have watched the first instalment, which, of course, you should, this one too has its rule book continued. A few characters have been added here and there, but Elle and her BFF Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney) continue to rule the school with their shenanigans and absurdity. A scene when Elle ends up describing the new guy Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez) will make you laugh out loud. The movie has its quirks, many laughable scenes, and some emotional outbursts.

As Elle and Noah try hard to make it work personally, in both their love and school lives, it is relatable. The only thing that could have been avoided in the storyline is the entry of two people - Marco and Chloe (Maisie Richards) for Elle and Noah realising their love for each other. But anyway, it works out for everybody concerned. The competition to get into a new school, submitting the essays and applications, and also make a decision that will affect the future is a lot a teen can handle, but hey, they are growing up!

To sum it up, if you want to watch something plain and stupid, grab a tub of popcorn, cuddle up with your beau, and enjoy this movie without thinking too much. We all deserve a break, and The Kissing Booth 2 is what you need this weekend.

15 facts about the magical world of Harry Potter you probably didn't know

Posted on 31 Jul 2020 02:00:00 GMT - hollywood-news

July 31 is an important date for the Harry Potter universe and its fans. Wizards and muggles alike recognise the date as Harry's birthday, which coincides with creator JK Rowling's birthday. Harry was born on July 31, 1980, to Lily and James Potter. So on this special day, here are some lesser-known facts about the magical world of Harry Potter, which introduced us to wizards, witches, elves, goblins, potions, friendship, sacrifice and more. Sony PIX celebrates Harry Potter and JK Rowling's birthdays on July 31 with a movie marathon on the channel.

Rowling says the idea for Harry Potter came to her during a four-hour train delay, when she was travelling back to London on her own from Manchester. It started as a simple thought: "Boy who doesn't know he's a wizard goes to wizarding school." She recalled, "I simply sat and thought, for four hours, while all the details bubbled up in my brain, and this scrawny, black-haired, bespectacled boy who didn't know he was a wizard became more and more real to me."

A still from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanA still from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The Weasleys' car, a Ford Anglia, harks back to the model and colour that Rowling has fond memories of driving around in when she was younger with her best friend from school.

Rowling has revealed that she may have adopted the name Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, from a hogwort plant she came across in New York's Kew Gardens.

The dementors are based on Rowling's struggle with depression after her mother's death. Rowling's mother, who had multiple sclerosis, died in 1990, after which Rowling suffered a period of depression. She would use the experience to characterise the Harry Potter's dementors, creepy creatures that feed on human emotion.

Rowling tipped Alan Rickman off to Snape's motivation. She also tipped Radcliffe off to Harry's fate partially to get more depth into the characters which we see in the movies.

The film's makeup artists applied the lightning bolt scar 5,800 times over the course of eight films. The scar was applied to Radcliffe's face 2,000 times and the rest went on film and stunt doubles. Radcliffe also went through 160 pairs of Harry's round-frame glasses.

Harry's parents James and Lily are soulmates because the Patronus charm is a physical representation of one's soul. Because James' is a stag and Lily's is a doe they are a perfect fit. And because Professor Snape was in love with Lily, his Patronus transformed into a doe when she died.

HP World

The first Harry Potter book was published in 1998, the same year the final Battle of Hogwarts was fought. Rowling had said, "I open at the close."

After the fragment of Voldemort's soul inside Harry was destroyed as the true final Horcrux, Harry lost his ability to speak Parseltongue. It's kind of sad, in a way, since Harry had been able to use that gift to his benefit several times.

After being the worst villain in the Harry Potter franchise, Dolores Umbridge ended up in Azkaban. The reason, according to Pottermore, was that she took part in imprisoning, torturing, and even ordering the deaths of some innocent witches and wizards in the Second Wizarding War. However, being the worst literary villain since Hannibal Lecter is also a pretty great reason to be thrown in Azkaban on its own.

Minerva McGonagall is forward-thinking and resourceful, brilliant and occasionally brooding. But what you might not know is that, like Batman, Minerva has made it through a lot of tragedy. Her first love was a muggle, for whom she almost left the wizarding world. Sadly, he was murdered by Voldemort in an anti-muggle attack. Minerva's second partner, who worked with her at Hogwarts, also lost his life because of dark wizards. Heck, McGonagall's home was even destroyed, which is why she now lives at the school. But through all that tragedy, Minerva is one of the most steadfast, courageous, and righteous witches in the HP world. She will always do what's good, no matter the sacrifice she must make. Without her, Hogwarts would probably be a much darker place.

Hogwarts castle is unplottable -- in other words, it's hiding in plain sight. We learned from Hermione in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire that if a muggle ever stumbles onto the school's grounds, they will see a castle, but not the way wizards see it. Instead, it looks as though it's completely in ruin, and is barred by a sign warning any potential explorers away. Hogwarts' unplottability is also designed to keep dark wizards at bay, though that clearly only works as long as the school's powerful magical protections are intact.

Albus Dumbledore

JK Rowling was afraid of getting asked one specific question – what was Dumbledore's wand made out of? She was afraid of this question because she thought it would give too much away if she said that his wand was made of "the death tree."

Hagrid's Hut was a real place. It was built specifically for the film but torn down immediately after Sorcerer's Stone wrapped up to avoid fans flocking to it.

Dumbledore's full name, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, might be long, but each name carries a specific meaning. "Albus" is Latin for "white," which could be symbolic of his relationship to Harry or his status as the antithesis of Voldemort. "Percival" was one of King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table, who went in search for the lost grail; a reference to the Deathly Hallows. "Wulfric" is said to be a reference to the 12th century British figure Wulfric of Haselbury, known as a miracle worker. "Brian" is said to be derived from an Old Celtic word that means "noble." "Dumbledore" is an Old English word for "bumblebee", and in joke by Rowling who stated: Since Albus Dumbledore is very fond of music, I always imagined him as sort of humming to himself a lot.
