Mamangam actress Prachi Tehlan set to wed amid COVID-19 pandemic on August 7

Posted on 2 Aug 2020 01:55:00 GMT - regional-movies

Actress Prachi Tehlan will get married on August 7 in New Delhi, and says every safety measure is being ensured at the celebrations. The actress, who was last seen in the Mammootty-starrer "Mamangam", is getting married to Delhi-based businessman and wildlife conservationist Rohit Saroha, whom she has been dating since 2012.

"We have kept the engagement and wedding on the same day -- engagement ceremony will be held in the morning while the latter will take place in the evening. Accordingly, we have invited 50 people for each function. Also, the guests have been asked to carry their masks, but even if they don't, we have made all the arrangements of masks and sanitisers at the venue," said Prachi.

She continued: "Health and safety of each and every human at the wedding is of utmost importance to me. That is why we have booked a venue that has a huge space. The idea is to make sure that guests do not come in close proximity to each other. Besides, we have invited them at an interval of 30 minutes to avoid crowding."

The wedding will take place at a farmhouse in Delhi.

"We have asked them (the staff) to sanitise the place well before and after every ceremony. Moreover, since the venue is very huge, we have kept different corners for different ceremonies. For example, the mandap for wedding rituals will be set up in one part of the farmhouse while the stage will be made in a different place. Engagement (in the morning) will happen in an entirely different area of the venue. Likewise, food arrangements have been made at a different location (within the farmhouse)," added the actress.

The celebrations will start from August 3.

Chaitanya Tamhane's Marathi film The Disciple selected for Venice Film Festival

Posted on 30 Jul 2020 01:48:18 GMT - regional-movies

Almost two decades after Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding (2001) bagged the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Chaitanya Tamhane's Marathi film, The Disciple, has been selected in the competition section of the 77th edition of the prestigious gala. Scheduled from September 2 to September 12, it is one of the first film festivals to be held in the wake of the pandemic with strict social distancing guidelines and screenings in outdoor venues.

Tamhane is overwhelmed that his sophomore directorial venture is set to compete with Majid Majidi's Sun Children and Andrei Konchalovsky's Dear Comrades, among others. "The competition section has showcased some of the best films in cinema history. The selection of The Disciple is a milestone in the Indian independent cinema movement. I am relieved that it has found such a great start even in these tough times," says the director. The Disciple, which is set in the world of Indian classical music, chronicles the journey of a vocalist, who has to balance life in contemporary Mumbai with his chosen vocation. "We have poured every ounce of energy and effort into the film over the last four years," adds the filmmaker.

Back home too, the film — a commentary on the Indian judicial system — bagged the National Award and was India's official entry to the 2016 Oscars.

Producer Vivek Gomber, who has teamed up with Tamhane after the 2014 outing, says, "I hope this makes it easier for new voices in our country to follow their paths."

Erupted Volcano: Talent that challenges boundaries

Posted on 29 Jul 2020 07:03:45 GMT - regional-movies

As an actor, Jaya Ahsan has already rounded up working with the top-ranked directors in West Bengal. The Bangladeshi actor first set foot in Kolkata in 2013, appearing in Arindam Sil's film, 'Aborto', for she was nominated for the Filmfare Award in the Best Actor (Female) category in this very first movie. Since then, her achievements have been rolling in. This 38 years old actor has worked with renowned directors such as Srijit Mukherji, Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Kaushik Ganguly and Atanu Ghosh depicting complex and diverse characters in films.

She finally secured the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Female) in 2017 for 'Bishorjan'. In the same year, she received the Zee Cine Award. It seems as though receiving awards has become a habit to this talented actor, who has also won the National Award in Bangladesh four times. Recently she has been nominated for yet another award in the Madrid International Film Festival for Best Actress for her role in the film, 'Robibaar', in which she starred opposite West Bengal heart-throb, Prosenjit Chatterjee.

But it's not the rewards that Jaya Ahsan craves for; it's the portrayal of versatile, complex and nuanced characters that she enjoys. This calm and composed actor said, "I always search for characters which pose a challenge for me; characters with depth that I can put my heart and soul in to bring them to life."

While her true passion lies within acting, her talents branch out to various other art forms. From drawing to pursuing a diploma in classical music and Tagore Song, this actor has mastered it all. She has also been invited to and attended countless international events. The Cannes Film Festival in 2013, representing Bangladesh in the CII Big Picture Summit in Delhi, and performing as Bangladesh's goodwill ambassador for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019, are a few such examples.

As an actor, Jaya Ahsan wants to move forward and break all the boundaries, be it country, language, or acting. "I have received quite a few offers for Hindi movies and web series, but I didn't find any to be fascinating that I wanted to be a part of," says Jaya. She also added, "A character needs to be challenging. I want to exceed my own limits and expectations. Otherwise, I will not be satisfied with the role, and neither will my audience."

Jaya Ahsan is ready to challenge herself and test her limits and creativity; to open the crater of creative volcano that she is.

Seeing his look, daughter Trishala Dutt commented- "Happy Birthday Daddy I love you!" (sic) Ronit Bose Roy wrote- "Amazing," (sic) and this was followed by the thumbs up emojis.

For the uninitiated, the first chapter ended with Yash's Rocky killing his rival Garuda, who controlled the gold mines of Kolar with slavery and savagery. With a turn of events, Adheera had promised that he won't try to take over the gold mines as long as Garuda was alive. In the second part of KGF, we will see Adheera and Rocky engaging in a power struggle over the gold mines- as it hints, brutally.

Mounted on a large scale, KGF 2 has the stellar cast of 'Rocking superstar' Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon amongst the others. The social media is abuzz as the fans are loving Adheera's look.

Produced by Vijay Kiragandur and directed by Prashant Neel, KGF2 is brought by celebrated names including Excel Entertainment and is a multilingual venture- to be released in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.

Dutt has been acting in films for over four decades now. Making his Bollywood debut with his father Sunil Dutt's Rocky in 1981, he went on to do films like Naam, Kabza, Saajan, Khalnayak, Vaastav, Kaante, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Dus, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dhamaal, All the Best, Agneepath, and Son of Sardaar.

He has clearly been enjoying his turn as the antagonist in multiple films. After Panipat and KGF, he also happens to be the villain in Shamshera opposite Ranbir Kapoor and Prithviraj opposite Akshay Kumar.
