How will celebrities celebrate Rakshabandhan this year? Some of them spill the beans!

Posted on 2 Aug 2020 12:24:00 GMT - television

2020 has been a tough year but now things have begun to get better, at least for television and Bollywood celebrities since they are back on sets and begun shooting with all the precautionary measures. And as the nation celebrates Rakshabandhan tomorrow on August 3, there are some actors that have spoken about how they plan to bring in the occasion. Will it be with family? Will it be on Zoom call? Let's find out what they have to say.

Vijayendra Kumeria

Vijayendra Kumeria: My first cousin has been tying Rakhi to me and my brother since childhood. It's been 10 years now that she moved to Dubai after her wedding. She sends us Rakhi from there and this year too its going to be the same. So COVID is technically not affecting our celebration this year. We have been close since childhood and have all those cute, naughty memories of us. I always hope and pray that she is blessed with good health and wealth.

Khushbhoo Kamal

Khushbhoo Kamal: Because of work, I can't travel from Mumbai to my family in Kanpur and this happens every year. So I send Rakhis for my brothers and my younger sisters tie it on my behalf. It's been four-five years now that I haven't been able to tie Rakhi to my brothers personally and I miss them badly. I have two Rakhi brothers in Mumbai too, one is Vishal Vijay Kumar, who is a writer, I tie Rakhi to him every year so this year also I will go to his house. Another is Mohammad Saud Mansuri, a child artist.

Ashna Kishore

Ashna Kishore: Rakhi is a very special day for me because of my twin brother Abhishek, who has taken care of me like an elder brother. I am glad that he is here with me in this pandemic and I will be able to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with him. Earlier it was not possible because of work schedules as he lives in Delhi. I have one Rakhi brother in Mumbai too. His name is Ramansh Bundela and I met him on the set of 'Meri Durga' where he played the role of my brother and since then our on-screen bond became off-screen too. I am so blessed to have him in my life, though he is younger to me, he has always taken care of me and protected me. But this time, unfortunately, I won't be able to celebrate Rakhi with him as he is in his home town due to this pandemic.

Ankit Siwach

Ankit Siwach: A lot has changed this year, and the same goes for the Raksha Bandhan celebrations. It has been a while that I celebrated Rakhi with my cousin sisters as all of us are settled in various parts of the world, which makes it all the more difficult to meet every year. So usually we video call each other and celebrate, Rakhis and gifts are exchanged through deliveries. This year, the delivery system has also faced the impact, therefore for the safety of our families, we would be avoiding any long-distance gifting. But yes, the love and excitement grows each passing year, its the best time to show the love to your siblings.

Amal Sehrawat

Amal Sehrawat: It's going to be a Zoom call Rakhi this time. The first thought that comes to my mind when I remember my sibling is that our relationship always remains pure and unaffected from any kind of negativity.

Rishina Kandhari

Rishina Kandhari: By the grace of god, my brother lives in the same building with my parents so as usual, we will have a grand celebration. Now that I've started shooting, he makes sure that I carry my mask, sanitizer, and take care of myself on the set. Above all he has taken over cooking too. He makes my lunch and packs home-cooked food for me and before leaving for work my basket is ready for takeaway. I really feel blessed to have my family with me in this crazy COVID times. I love my brother very much I call him my firstborn as he's younger to me.

Amit Sarin

Amit Sarin: This year too I am here in L.A., while my sister is in Mumbai. Every year on Raksha Bandhan, she would cook my favorite dishes. My kids are extremely close to her. One of my fondest memory while growing up was waking up to her playing sitar in the mornings. She plays a very good sitar. It still echoes in my head. I miss her and this year it will be a celebration on a video call.

Aniruddh Dave

Aniruddh Dave: I had planned to travel to Jaipur for Raksha Bandhan, but this pandemic has made things difficult. I wanted to surprise her with something special, but COVID ruined my plans. In Jaipur during Raksha Bandhan all my cousins gather, so it becomes a big family celebration. This year it's going to be a grand celebration on a video call I guess.

Sharad Malhotra

Sharad Malhotra: It's going to be a virtual Rakhi celebration this time too. Even last year I couldn't travel during Rakhi as I was busy with work and this year the pandemic has put a full stop on all our plans. I am the younger one and my sister is eight years elder to me, so she has always been protective of me and since the time I came to my senses, it has been the same from my side too. She is like a mother figure to me. We still bond the same, nothing has changed between us. We have always celebrated Rakshabandhan at my house back in Kolkata. My fondest memory of Raksha Bandhan would be of 2018 when I went to Kolkata in 2018 and met my sister and my cousins after seven months. They cooked my favourite meal, from Rajma chawal to Gajar Ka Halwa. My sister had even surprised me with a very expensive watch at that time.

Expect tons of Instagram posts and videos tomorrow! As stated above, there are a lot of people in the entertainment industry that may not be able to be with their siblings due to the lockdown, but we are sure they too will post lovely and lovable posts for their brothers and sisters. And of course, it will also be interesting to see who all celebrates together with family!

There is no denying that Bollywood celebrities have a huge fan following not just in India but across the globe, proving that entertainment brings cultures together. Fans not only admire, praise, and love them but they have time and again found innovative ways and means of reaching out to their favorite Bollywood celebrities.

Zaan Khan on nonpayment of dues: Had to sell off my car, family forcing me to come back home

Posted on 1 Aug 2020 07:56:39 GMT - television

The coronavirus lockdown has been difficult on everyone. There aren't many people who didn't feel the impact of it financially, emotionally or physically. The entertainment industry is one of the worst hit during the lockdown as shoots were cancelled and things had come to a complete standstill. In all of this, there are reports of the cast of the TV show Hamari Bahu Silk not getting their dues in time.

Recently, the show's lead actor Zaan Khan held a silent protest near one of the producer's homes along with his crew. Now, in a recent interview, the actor has said that he has no money left to survive in the city anymore, and if he is not paid his hard-earned money, then he will have to move out from Mumbai and head to his hometown.

Speaking to Pinkvilla, the actor said, "I am telling you someone or the other might commit suicide owing to the situation. I had to sell off my car, I am seeing such a time where my family members are forcing me to come back home. They are concerned for me because they see all the news and are worried. I belong from a good family and moreover, if it was only about me, I would have still resisted but I can’t see the other people suffering, they badly need that money."

He continued, "It is not just about our show, it is about the industry. I don't see unity amongst artists here. If they see that a fellow artist of theirs is going through such a situation, it's not like they are unaware of this, but I think everyone is enjoying this show. They talk about unity, they talk about peace and support but, in-action nothing. What happened with Sushant? Now that he is gone, everyone is talking, about him. Here we are all suffering, but no one wants to talk about it."

Speaking about the struggles, he said, "Last time we protested outside one of the producer’s house, but she did not come out. It was not just me, I had like 25-30 people which consists of makeup guys, spot dada and more. They are all facing a financial crisis. These people are not understanding our problem at all. The other producer Jyoti Gupta is unresponsive. There is no accountability whatsoever, not even the channel."

Zaan Khan protested against the show's producer for the same issue of non-payment of dues. Taking to his Instagram account, he shared a post that was uploaded by celebrity photographer Viral Bhayani. In the post, Khan was seen along with the other cast and crew members of the show holding placards that read - Pay Our Dues.

Have a look right here:

Posted on 1 Aug 2020 02:33:00 GMT - television

Rushad Rana recently joined the cast of Rajan Shahi's Anupamaa. And though he is happy to join the cast of such a brilliant show, reuniting with his best friend Mehul Nisar has made him happier.

The duo has been part of shows like Hip Hip Hurray, Apna Apna Style, Hip Hip Hurray 2, Mohabbatein, Par Is Dil Ko Kaise Samjhaye, Kehtaa Hai Dil, Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, and Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan. And now in Anupamaa, while Mehul plays the role of Anupamaa's brother, Rushad essays Kavya's estranged husband.

Mehul says it's nice to have a friend on the set and says, "Our friendship goes back to the days of Hip Hip Hurray. We have not had tracks together in the shows. But it is always nice to have a friend of yours on the set you are working on. Rushad and I have stood by each other always, and our friendship means a lot to us. And now to have him on the set of Anupamaa is so welcoming and nice."

Rushad shares, "When I worked in my first show with him in 'Hip Hip Hurray', I got a friend for life. We have seen days when we used to go on his bike from production house to production house and distribute our pictures. I got 'Mohabbatein', thanks to him and discovered what a caring and wonderful person he is in our London schedule. After that, we have done several shows together, although never had scenes together. With Anupamaa, we are back together. I just hope to do scenes with my darling friend again."

With Friendship Day soon approaching, we can surely hope for a double celebration with these two on the sets of Anupamaa. The show is produced under Rajan Shahi's banner Director's Kut Productions and features Rupali Ganguly in the titular role. It also has Sudhanshu Pandey playing the role of Vanraj and Madalsa Sharma as Kavya.

Karishma Tanna: If there was anything like insider and outsider, Karan Johar wouldn't have cast Sushant

Posted on 31 Jul 2020 06:30:00 GMT - television

After the unfortunate demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, there have been multiple debates and discussions on the way the Hindi film industry functions, how nepotism can jeopardise someone's career, and how insiders have it easier than the outsiders.

Karishma Tanna, who recently won the show Khatron Ke Khiladi 10, has also given her take on the debate. In an interview with Pinkvilla, she first spoke about Rajput and said, "Sushant Singh Rajput got really good opportunities throughout, from the time he shifted from TV to films, he has only got the best opportunities."

She added, "Not even once he has worked with a normal production house, always worked with ace production houses, and all the A-Lister heroines. I wouldn't even debate on the insider and outsider debate, it is about who is good at acting, who fits the role, and who the producer wants. It is as simple as it gets."

Elaborating further, she said that if this was the case, Rajkumar Hirani and Karan Johar wouldn't have cast him in PK and Drive. She said, "I don't believe there is an outsider and insider world because if that was the case, Karan Johar would have never taken Sushant in Drive, Rajkumar Sir wouldn't have taken him in PK. I just feel that from TV to jump into films, the struggle is a little more. I don't mind the struggle because then you can't enjoy the little success. I have never got easy success, nor do I expect it."

She even gave her take on nepotism and said if she would be in a position to help someone in her family, she would. "About nepotism, I have always believed that if I am an ace producer and if I have a sister tomorrow and if my sister's son is good looking and can act, then why will I not give him or her the job? I will definitely give the first job to my family because a) they are worth it and b) because I am in that position of casting him but that doesn't mean I won't give an opportunity to someone who is not from my family," Tanna stated.

Talking about winning Khatron Ke Khiladi 10, she recently said, "Khatron Ke Khiladi has been an incredible journey for me, and I have never experienced so much adventure and thrill in my life. As I lifted the coveted trophy, the extraordinary journey and our good times spent in Bulgaria flashed in front of my eyes. I would like to thank my co-contestants and Rohit Shetty for giving me strength and motivating me to overcome my fears. Khatron Ke Khiladi has taught me a lot, and this experience will stay with me forever."

Coming to Rajput, success happened pretty early in the form of Pavitra Rishta, a popular television show. After Pavitra Rishta and its subsequent success, it was Bollywood calling for Rajput and he made a gripping debut with 2013's Kai Po Che.

Sushant Singh RajputInfographic/Atul Jain

There was no looking back for the actor then. He went on to do films like Shuddh Desi Romance, PK, Kedarnath, Sonchiriya, and Chhichhore. His most memorable performance came in 2016 when he took the challenge to emulate the physical and emotional nuances of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in his biopic, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. Lauded by fans and critics alike for his effective and energetic performance, Rajput nailed such a complex character with ease and aplomb!

Raksha Bandhan 2020: Malaika Arora gets nostalgic about her childhood with sister Amrita

Posted on 31 Jul 2020 06:00:00 GMT - television

Popular reality show India's Best Dancer is creating the right buzz among audiences for its content and high entertainment quotient. The upcoming episode of India's Best Dancer this weekend will celebrate the beautiful festival of Raksha Bandhan. Right from the contestants, hosts Bharti and Haarsh, and the judges – Geeta Kapur, Malaika Arora and Terence Lewis will be seen celebrating this festival and recall their favourite moments with their siblings.

Contestant Adnan, who hails from Assam, along with choreographer Sushant depicted the beautiful and emotional bond between a brother and sister through their performance. This made Adnan miss his sisters all the more. However, Adnan was not aware that his two sisters had actually come to see him perform. When he saw his sisters, he was so touched that he couldn't hold back his tears and started crying. Looking at that moment on stage, Malaika got nostalgic about her childhood days with sister Amrita Arora.

Reminiscing her childhood days, Malaika shared, "Parents give you direction in life and support you. But our siblings also support us, and that is something we should be happy and proud about. I have taken care of Amrita in our childhood days when my mum used to go to work. Everything, from eating to getting her ready to go to school, I used to help her do all her work. I still remember Amrita used to go to the washroom in school after taking permission from her teacher on the condition only if I was present there. She has been like my own child. Now that she has her own kids, she behaves like my older sister, she gives me advice. We share a close and strong bond. We have had our share of days where we would fight, not speak with each other, but she was always the first one to say sorry whether it was her mistake or not."

After contestant Adnan and judge Malaika shared their memories, Adnan spent quality time with his sisters, Nirju and Mayni. He also relished homemade biryani which his sisters had specially brought for him. Adnan said, "I have missed them. I couldn't even stay two days without them. When Sushant sir explained the concept to me, I could relate with it, it's coming from a real space, a real feeling." Looking at Adnan being emotional on stage, even Bharti couldn't hold back her tears and started crying on the set as she missed her sibling."

Tassnim Sheikh to play a key role in Rajan Shahi's new show Anupamaa

Posted on 30 Jul 2020 09:23:15 GMT - television

"I had decided not to take any kind of work during this pandemic, but when an offer came from Director's Kut, I was very happy. Rajan Shahi is a name in the industry which is associated with a lot of goodwill. He is a fabulous person and has a great team. He was always in my wish list. The apprehension of not working during this pandemic vanished when I reached the sets. The way the production house is taking care of us is amazing. Hats off to their efforts. And also the time has come when we need to be brave and take care of ourselves. In my career I have seen so much and now this pandemic situation is going to teach us many things."

Speaking more about her character she says, "My character will bring some surprise in the show - so you have to wait and watch. I can't reveal much. Look-wise it is just opposite to Anupamaa."

Talking about her break she says, "There is no such reason of my break. I have only taken up shows which I wanted to do. After a break of 7 years when I came back on television in 2017, my dear friend Nivedita Basu convinced me and I had a great time in Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi. After that, I did Dastaan-E-Mohabbat Salim Anarkali. It was again made on a very large scale. Post that the offers were not interesting and as I said Rajan Shahi was always in my wish list! So what better way to break my 1.5 years of gap from being in front of the camera."

Speaking about the changes she's experienced in the last 22 years of her career, Tassnim says, "I am old school and am always punctual, sincere and pay attention to my craft. I have seen some actors in my career who are very casual and that used to disturb me. I could sense a lack of dedication in some actors. Whenever I take up a show I tell my producer I will be coming on time and leave on time. Another change I have noticed is that shift timings are maintained and not dragged for long hours. I have even worked for 72 long hours at a stretch. So that's a welcoming change for sure."

Anupamaa has been received well by the audience and Tassnim is super excited to be part of this. "That's the best part - when you are entering a new show and the show has made a mark in audience's heart already. I wish and pray that people shower more love and blessings to us and we all rock as a team." Tassnim will be seen playing Nidhi Shah's mother in the show. Nidhi will se seen as Kinjal who is Aashish Mehrotra's onscreen character Paritosh's love interest.

Humari Bahu Silk actor Zaan Khan: I have sold all that I could, I spent all my savings during the lockdown

Posted on 30 Jul 2020 03:56:52 GMT - television

The entire cast and crew of Humari Bahu Silk have been going through the most difficult phase. Claiming unpaid dues by the producers, the actors are finding hard to survive during the pandemic. Zaan Khan, the lead actor of the show, confessed in an old interview, how his co-star Chahat Pandey tried to commit suicide due to financial constraints. It's not just the cast, but also the technicians, who work on daily wages, have shared their dilemma.

Now, in an interview with ETimes, Zaan Khan confessed how he is now forced to return to his hometown, Bhopal, as surviving in the city is just not possible. The actors have already approached the Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) and the local police for help. On July 29, a few members of the cast and crew turned up at Shiv Sena Bhavan, Dadar, to discuss their plight with some party officials. When asked about the visit, Zaan Khan shared, "I don't want to comment on it."

Zaan also posted a video where a well-known artist Sarita Joshi has shared her plight too about her experience.

Its a shame Such a senior respected actress who holds a padamshri award has to make a video like this. I dont want to say anything more. THIS IS WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS.

Pouring his heart out in front of the media, Zaan mentioned, "We worked on the show for almost a year and got paid for just a month. We have pleaded with the producers (Devyani, Jyoti Gupta and Sudhanshu Tripathi) and tried to get our dues cleared, but in vain. We now plan to stage another protest outside Devyani's new residence, where she shifted some time ago. There are people who don't have money to buy essentials. I have sold all that I could, including one of the two cars I have; I spent all my savings during the lockdown and also helped my unit members."

"I shot for a commercial recently, but how long will that money last? Now, I don't have money left to pay the rent. My parents are insisting that I return to my hometown, Bhopal. I came to Mumbai to fulfil my dream of becoming an actor, but if things don't improve, I will have to go back. I will be forced to take a drastic step if the producers don't clear our dues," the actor concluded.

Sushant told ex-girlfriend Ankita he was 'quite unhappy' as Rhea 'harassed' him: Reports

Posted on 30 Jul 2020 02:25:00 GMT - television

Actress Ankita Lokhande, ex-girlfriend of Sushant Singh Rajput, had reportedly informed Bihar Police that the late actor was quite unhappy because Rhea Chakraborty harassed him.

Ankita made her claim while she was visiting Sushant's family in Patna, a report in news18.com stated. According to the website, Ankita told the police that through a chat around the time of release of her Bollywood debut film, "Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi" in 2019, Sushant mentioned being "harassed" by his then-current girlfriend Rhea.

A report in dnaindia.com corroborated the news saying a source had informed the website that, according to Ankita, Sushant had told her that he is "quite unhappy in the relationship and wants to end it as Rhea harassed him".

The news18.com report further stated that Ankita's above-mentioned chat with Sushant was shared with the police at that time.

Sushant dated Ankita, his co-star of the hit TV series "Pavitra Rishta", for almost six years after which they parted ways. After Sushant's demise in June, Ankita had visited the actor's family, when they were in Mumbai to perform his last rites.

During her visit to Patna later, Ankita had reportedly shown the above-mentioned chats to Sushant's sister Shweta Singh Kirti.

On Tuesday, it came to light that Sushant's father KK Singh had filed an FIR at the Rajiv Nagar police station in Patna accusing six people, including his girlfriend Rhea, for abetment to suicide.

On Wednesday, Ankita took to social media to share a cryptic post. The actress tweeted an image that reads "Truth Wins", on her verified account.
